This Division work closely with the Management Information Systems Division on information management matters. The Division is led by a Director and has four sections each led by an Assistant Director as follows:-

RECORDS MANAGEMENT SECTION

The section does the following:

  • Establishing and planning Records Management Programme,
  • Establishing and organising vital records protection programme,
  • Developing retention and disposal schedules,
  • Disaster planning and recovery,
  • Management and design of filing systems, registry systems,
  • Control records quality
NATIONAL ARCHIVES SERVICE CENTRE SECTION

Its main functions are to:

  • Arrangement, classification and description of archives,
  • Provide access and reference service,
  • Storage and preservation paper records, audio-visual, electronic records,
  • Facilitate development of curriculum in records management and archives administration 
  • Designing archives and information infrastructure,
  • Initiate and review policy on acquisition and accessioning archival materials,
  • Carryout outreach programmes design and management (exhibition, school education programme, etc) in liason with RSs and LGAs,
  • Undertake records declassification/downgrading

RECORDS CENTRE SERVICES SECTION

This section is responsible for:

  • Managing/administering Records transfers from creating agencies,
  • Loaning out semi-current records to creating agencies,
  • Conduct records appraisal
  • Develop retention and disposal schedules
  • Managing disposition of records, and
  • Administering zonal records and archives centres.
TECHNICAL SERVICES SECTION

This section is responsible for:

  • Bind books, papers and other documents,
  • Restore  and conserve documents,
  • Undertake Microfilm,
  • Automate books, papers,microfilm,
  • Undertake photos,
  • Provide reprographic services (certification)

     

FOUNDERS OF THE NATION CENTRE

  • Acquire, Preserve and facilitate access to documentary materials and objects of the Founders of the Nation
  • Educate the Public on the legacy of the Founders of the Nation
  • Establish and implement procedures for timely disposal of the Founders of the nation materials,
  • Establish a networking relations with persons, institutions and organisations, both private and public performing similar or ancillary functions to those of the centre, 
  • Collaborate with the Trust Fund to solicit resources which may be used in pursuing centre's functions,
  • Promote access of the Founders of the Nation materials and enhancing Publications related to the Founders of the Nation.
