  • The Gazette is published on Friday of each week and notices for publication should be submitted to the Principal Secretary (Establishments) by 1000 hours on Monday.  There can be no exception to this as material for publication must be in the hands of the Government Printer by 0730 hours on Tuesday. 
  • All General Notices for publication in the Gazette should normally be submitted in Kiswahili.   
Publication for casualties in the Official Gazette

The following casualties in respect of officers on permanent terms as specified below will be published in the Gazette.

 (a)   In respect of all officers:

  • Substantive first appointments,
  • Confirmation in appointments
  • Departures on (or on leave pending) resignation, retirement, completion of contract, termination of appointment, or dismissal,
  • Deaths. 

(b)  In respect of certain specified officers:

  • Acting appointments made under the terms of Standing Order L.22 and any other acting appointments which must be formally gazetted for statutory reasons.
  •   Reversions from acting appointments previously gazetted.
  •   Promotions to posts carrying a salary or salary scales not below GS.3 or equivalent level. 
  • Transfers and secondments of officers within the United Republic occupying posts carrying a salary or salary scale not below GS.3 or equivalent level.
  •    Departures on and arrival from leave of officers who are in the SS Scale. Returns of all casualties under (a) and (b) above, in the form in which such information is published in the Gazette will be sent to the Principal Secretary (Establishments) weekly.  C.30 Other notices for the Gazette All notices for the Gazette, other than those referred to in Standing Order C.29 above, should be typed exactly as they are to appear and it will usually be possible to find a specimen in previous issues for the Gazette.

The following points should be noted. 

  1. Notices should be forwarded in publicate to the Principal Secretary (Establishments) who will forward a copy to the Government Printer and return the other to the Ministry/Independent Department/Region concerned, duly stamped “Publish in the Gazette”.
  2. The file number should appear at the top right-hand  corner of the notice or Bill.  Files should not accompany the notices. 
  3.  If this notice is signed by, or on behalf of, a Principal Secretary/Head of Independent Department/Regional Development Director the name of the Ministry/Independent Department/Region should appear in the bottom left-hand corner of the notice immediately above the date.
  4. The signature on the copy of the notice sent for publication should be by rubber stamp, typed or written in block letters, the original copy should remain in the file.
  5.  If it is found necessary to publish a “Corrigendum”, it should be submitted to the Principal Secretary (Establishments) in the form shown at the back of every Gazette.  The Principal Secretary (Establishment) will not draft corrigenda. 
  6. The Principal Secretary (Establishments) will not change or amend any notice received for publication and any notice received which does not comply with the above instructions will be returned for correction, with the consequent delay in publication.
Responsibility for checking Gazette entries

 It is the responsibility of the Ministries/Independent Departments/Regions to ensure that their notices, etc. do appear in the Gazette and to arrange for extracts to be taken for their files.
